Why A Honda Goldwing Makes A Terrible First Cafe Racer

The search algorithm hit “tow” and “Honda” and made an educated guess, by which I mean sharted its brain out through its ears. IOW, “it chose poorly”.

I mean, part of this is your fault for being Motorcycle Boy, but still.

Agreed. However, it reminded me of this from a few years back:

I dunno, some Hondas make interesting tow vehicles:

I’m actually pondering picking up a friend’s Valkyrie...

That was half of my semi-serious point - that nearly nobody tows with a Honda, but Gold Wings both *get* towed and *tow things themselves*. In other words “Tow” has twice as much to do with Gold Wings as Ridgelines and infinity more to do with Gold Wings than the typical Civic.

The two biggest things I’ve heard people rave about are the torque, and the sound. I mean, six-into-six exhaust...

I agree, Hondas are not typically used for towing of any sort. Capable? Well, most are, but not usually a first choice.

My friend who owns it warns me that it’ll rip my arms off once it’s running right. Dirty carbs at the moment, but Seafoam is helping. I’ll borrow it once it’s fixed and see what I think. It’ll be an experience whether I end up buying it or not.

I knew someone who owned one, he said the Valkyrie would easily loft the front wheel without breaking a sweat!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the bike once you’ve ridden it.

Dang - and that’s a big heavy cruiser, not a crotch rocket!

I’ll definitely be writing a review of the Valk once I ride it.

That is friggin’ amazing... and must flop onto its side like a flounder with vertigo every throttle blip. :D

Hmm. 118hp/123 lb.ft.... maybe 700 lbs after tour-ectomy? Seems worth the effort. XD Besides... PNW riders tend to have a pathological denial of otherwise-diamond-clenching grip issues (I know, I was one of them for almost ten years). ;)

Possibly even down to the 600 lb range, given the amount of the frame that was removed, along with the saddlebags and touring trunk. There was also the “dash” and the fairing up front, I imagine that also cut a substantial amount of weight.
